What's Actually
In Your Can?

Caffeine
Also: synthetic caffeine, anhydrous caffeine
The main event. Blocks the brain signals that make you feel tired — so you stay sharp when the swing drags on.

How it works
Caffeine
Adenosine is the chemical that builds up in your brain and makes you feel sleepy. Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors, so your brain can't receive the tired signal. Effect kicks in within 30–60 minutes and lasts 4–6 hours. TGA recommends no more than 400mg per day for healthy adults.

Natural Caffeine
From: tea leaves, green coffee extract
Same caffeine molecule, different source. Some find it smoother than synthetic — less spike, less jitter.

How it works
Natural Caffeine
Chemically identical to synthetic caffeine but extracted from plant sources like tea leaves or green coffee beans. Often paired with L-theanine naturally present in tea, which can soften the edge. 200mg is a solid mid-shift dose — enough to keep you sharp without tipping you over the limit.

Beta-Alanine
Also: β-alanine
Reduces muscle burn during sustained effort. Warning: causes a harmless tingling sensation — completely normal, doesn't mean anything is wrong.
Performance Tap to flip ↩
How it works
Beta-Alanine
Combines with histidine in the body to form carnosine, which buffers lactic acid build-up in muscles. That means less burn during sustained physical work. The tingling sensation (paresthesia) is a known side effect — harmless, usually fades within 30 minutes. Useful for workers doing physically demanding tasks.

Citrulline
Also: citrulline malate, L-citrulline
Improves blood flow and reduces fatigue during physical work. Originally a gym pre-workout ingredient — now in RTD cans.
Performance Tap to flip ↩
How it works
Citrulline
Converts to arginine in the kidneys, which boosts nitric oxide production. Nitric oxide relaxes blood vessels and improves circulation — meaning more oxygen and nutrients to working muscles. Reduces the feeling of fatigue during sustained physical effort. More relevant for manual workers than desk workers.

L-Carnitine
Also: acetyl L-carnitine, ALCAR
Transports fatty acids into cells to be burned for energy. The key thermogenic in OxyShred — your body comp ingredient.
Thermogenic Tap to flip ↩
How it works
L-Carnitine
Acts as a shuttle — carries long-chain fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane so they can be oxidised (burned) for energy. In theory this means more fat used as fuel. The acetyl form (ALCAR) also crosses the blood-brain barrier and may support focus. Results are modest without exercise, but on a physically active FIFO swing, this is worth having.

Thermogenic Blend
Also: CLA, green tea extract, grains of paradise
Raises your metabolic rate slightly — your body burns a few more calories at rest. The fat-burning angle in OxyShred.
Thermogenic Tap to flip ↩
How it works
Thermogenic Blend
Thermogenics increase body heat production (thermogenesis), which raises calorie expenditure slightly. Common ingredients include CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), green tea extract, and grains of paradise. Effects are real but modest — don't expect dramatic fat loss from a can alone. Combined with a physical FIFO swing, the extra metabolic activity adds up over a 14-day roster.

Taurine
Also: 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid
Supports heart function and reduces oxidative stress. Found in almost every energy drink — often misunderstood.

How it works
Taurine
An amino acid found naturally in meat and fish. Supports cardiovascular function, nerve signalling, and antioxidant activity. Despite the rumour, it does NOT come from bull urine — it's synthetically produced for supplements. Studies suggest it may counteract some of caffeine's negative cardiovascular effects. Generally regarded as safe at doses used in energy drinks.

B-Vitamins
B3 (Niacin), B6, B12
Support energy metabolism and reduce fatigue. Almost every energy drink includes them — here's what they actually do.
Support Tap to flip ↩
How it works
B-Vitamins
B-vitamins are essential cofactors in cellular energy production — they help your body convert food into usable energy. B12 deficiency causes fatigue and brain fog, so supplementing is useful if your diet is limited on-site. B3 (niacin) at high doses causes a flushing sensation — similar to beta-alanine tingling but in the skin. Generally safe and useful on long rosters where diet quality drops.

Electrolytes
Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium
Replace what you sweat out. Critical on hot sites — you can be caffeinated and still perform poorly if you're dehydrated.
Support Tap to flip ↩
How it works
Electrolytes
Electrolytes regulate fluid balance, nerve signalling, and muscle contraction. When you sweat heavily in 40°C Pilbara heat, you lose sodium and potassium — this causes fatigue, cramps, and reduced cognitive function. Energy drinks with electrolytes replace some of this loss. Still drink water — electrolytes without adequate fluid don't work.

Sugar
Sucrose, glucose, fructose
The reason you crash. Original V Energy and Red Bull are loaded with it. None of our picks contain sugar.
Stimulant Tap to flip ↩
Why it's a problem
Sugar
High sugar intake spikes blood glucose rapidly — you feel a burst of energy, then insulin kicks in hard and drops your blood sugar below baseline. That's the crash. A V Energy has 52g of sugar (13 teaspoons) and a Red Bull 473ml has the same — both before you've even started your shift. On a 12-hour shift, this crash hits you right when you can least afford it — around hour 3 or 4. Every drink we recommend has zero sugar.
